Blackberry Hearing Launches Remote Care Service 21.04.2020
Blackberry Hearing launches Remote Care to support its Customers during COVID-19
Blackberry Hearing, the largest Irish-owned provider of Hearing Aids in the country, has today launched its Remote Care service in partnership with Widex, a leading Hearing Aid supplier. The new service allows for customers of Blackberry Hearing to receive adjustments and fine-tuning of their hearing aids in real time while speaking to their Audiologist on a video-call style app called Widex Remote Care.
The launch of this new service has been fast-tracked by Blackberry Hearing due to the ongoing COVID-19 restrictions which has kept people at home and unable to make it to their local clinic. It is one of the first deployments of Teleaudiology in Ireland to date.
How does this Remote Care service work?
When a customer is looking to have their hearing aids adjusted (amplification, programming, fine-tuning), we will post them a Remote Link device (a small neck-loop) and ask them to download the Widex Remote Care App to their Smartphone. We will then arrange a convenient time with the customer for our Audiologist to call them using the app. They can then make changes to the hearing aids in real time, with the customer experiencing immediate improvements. This allows customers to remain safe at home, while gaining full benefits of their hearing aids and the expertise of their Audiologist.
This innovative new service by Widex has been described by an industry expert as ‘The Uber of Remote Care’ and explains the features and benefits in more detail during the video.
Other supports available for Customers during COVID-19
Supplies & Repairs
Customers have been receiving supplies of batteries, filters, receivers and domes throughout the lock-down and our dedicated team are always on the other end of the phone (01-6978470) should our customers need anything from us. If customers need to have their hearing aids repaired, we ask that they are sent to our head office by registered post – we will typically repair and return to them free of charge the same day!
Online Hearing Test
For people who are concerned about their hearing but unable to get to a clinic and meet with one of our audiologists, we have launched a New Online Hearing Test. This calibrated test, produced by Irish company Ctone, has been designed to provide users with an initial screening and recommendations for next steps, including a referral to an audiologist for a full hearing consultation.
How it works!
We send you out a loop that is programmed to your hearing loss.
You need access to a smartphone. You download the App – Widex Remote Care on your smartphone.
You pair your phone with the loop by simply following the instructions in the App while wearing the loop.
You can then schedule a session with your audiologist through the office by calling
On the day at the appointment time:
You wear the loop around your neck while wearing your hearing aids.
You open the Widex Remote Care App on your smartphone and set it up so you can view your audiologist in comfort (maybe stand it up)
The audiologist connects to you through your opened Widex Remote Care app. You will be able to see each other on video.
Your audiologist has access to your hearing aids through the loop and remote care technology. Your hearing aids may be adjusted to improve your hearing experience.
If you need any help at any point during the process we can talk you through it as you proceed.
